Roads: More than MAD 2 Billion for maintenance

Morocco spends more than MAD 2 billion to maintain its roads, said on Monday in Rabat the head of government, Saad-Eddine El Othmani.

At a meeting of the Interministerial Committee on Road Safety, held on the occasion of National Road Safety Day, El Othmani reminded that road safety is one of the priorities of the government program which provides for measures of a to reduce by 20% the number of deaths on the roads by 2020.

The head of the government, however, regretted the rate of decline in road mortality over the last two years, which he said “remains below our expectations and goals outlined”.

In 2018, the number of deaths in road accidents fell slightly, but increased by 8.38% in urban areas. These accidents cost Morocco 2 percentage points of GDP per year.
