Royal Air Maroc: Pilots refuse lower wages

The airline pilots of the Royal Air Maroc (RAM) airline expressed their categorical opposition to a drain on their wages.

The RAM having been forced to suspend the flights and to immobilize the planes on the ground for a fortnight because of the crisis of the new coronavirus (covid-19), the general direction decided to operate a puncture between 10 and 30 % on the salaries of its employees. The airline pilots are opposed to this decision. They made this known through a letter addressed to their employer.

This withdrawal is in the form of a loan repayable upon resumption of activities. The 600 airline pilots of the company are against this decision which aims to allow the company to continue to face operating costs in this period of crisis. For the latter, no question of making any puncture on their wages.

Faced with the refusal of airline pilots to yield to the request of their employer, voices were raised to denounce their lack of solidarity during this difficult period. These voices went so far as to demand reforms to put an end to their privileges, in particular, the reduction of their emoluments which make 60 times the SMIG in the kingdom.
