“Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has seen a radical change in its environmental policy, this is explained by the representation of the Kingdom by His Majesty in person in the various summits on the environment and sustainable development, HM Mohammed VI, then The Prince, took an active part in the work of the Earth Summit held from June 3 to 14, 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, at COP21 where HM Mohammed VI declared that the objective of 42%, which was set for the share of renewable energies, in the response to Morocco’s needs in 2020, was raised to 52% by 2030 and the successful organization of COP22, whose Kingdom was the Host Country”, adds Hatim El Otmani, President of NGO Atlas For Development.
“Given the Kingdom’s leadership in the fight against climate change and its positioning in Africa with regard to renewable energies, Morocco will host the Peace Boat May 28 in Tangier” he says.
With regard to the program, Hatim El Otmani declared the following “given the time constraint, namely that the Peace Boat will come at 07:00 and will depart to Portugal at 17:00, we have tried to diversify the program. In the morning, the Peace Boat will visit a project in the region of Tangier that relates to climate change and sustainable development in general, a discussion between the young ambassadors of the Peace Boat and their Moroccan counterparts will follow. The afternoon will see activities at the edge of the Boat, where different panels will link on climate change and its relationship with the Sustainable Development Goals, namely education, peace, migration, economy and oceans.”
It should be noted that Hatim El Otmani and as co-founder of Youth SDG Action Morocco won the Best Mobilizer for the Sustainable Development Goals award, and currently, as part of Atlas For Development, launched the Academy 2063 which focuses on the promotion of the 2030 Agenda and that of the African Union 2063 while focusing on Education and Health, and this in partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland in Morocco, the Ministry in charge of relations between parliament and civil society and the United Nations Information Center.
