The authorities on maximum alert for the holidays of the end of the year

The Moroccan authorities are on maximum alert in anticipation of the holiday season and security risks, including those related to terrorism.

According to sources, orders have been given to accentuate the border surveillance of the Kingdom with Algeria. This time of year could be chosen, fear the authorities, by terrorist organizations to carry out attacks in the country.

Police and military reinforcements have also been sent to the borders with Sebta and Melilla to secure passages in anticipation of large arrivals of travelers wishing to spend their holidays in Europe.

This strengthening of security at this time is not new in Morocco. Every year, police are sent to the main points of concentration of the population to ensure the safety of the festivities.

Last year, some 50,000 policemen were deployed on the weekend of Christmas Eve all over Morocco. 1,200 vehicles had made rounds to “preserve the feeling of security of the citizens” and rake “all the avenues sheltering the festive evenings”.
