“The call of Al-Quds” sent to UN SG

The Ambassador Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations in New York, Omar Hilale, and the Apostolic Nuncio, have jointly conveyed to the Secretary General of the UN “The Call of Al-Quds”, signed on March 30, 2019 by King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Believers, and Pope Francis, during the visit of the Supreme Pontiff to Morocco.

By “The Call of Al-Quds”, the King and Pope Francis, recognizing the uniqueness and sanctity of Jerusalem/Al-Quds Acharif and having at heart its spiritual significance and special vocation as a city of Peace, have provided strong and unwavering support to Al-Quds in a very sensitive environment where the Palestinian issue is going through difficult times and in urgent need of strong support, such as the “Call of Al-Quds”.

Ambassador Hilale and the Apostolic Nuncio also transmitted the said Appeal to the Chairman of the Committee for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, which will hold a meeting on Palestine next Wednesday, to the United Nations High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, as well as to all Missions and Permanent Observations in New York.

The Group of Arab Ambassadors, which held its meeting on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Ambassador Hilale, welcomed the king’s enlightened vision, while welcoming the signing by the Sovereign and Pope Francis of the said Appeal, which in line with international law and the constants of the Arab and Islamic Umma. This Appeal is also part of the undeniable support for the right of the Palestinian people to the liberation and establishment of their state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as capital, living side by side with Israel.
