The detention of Carlos Ghosn extended

A Tokyo court on Monday decided to extend the detention of former Nissan group president Carlos Ghosn until 11 January, on suspicion of “exploiting trust,” the Japanese press reported.

According to Japanese media reports, the judge has acquiesced in the prosecutor’s request, which would take more time, according to him, to decide whether a new charge should be laid against Ghosn.

The court’s decision on Monday does not mean that Ghosn will be automatically released on January 11 or the next day, as the prosecutor can theoretically extend his detention.

Ghosn was arrested and placed in prison for investigation on November 19 in Tokyo.
