The journalists of the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP) elected the six personalities who marked the year 2019 by their professional career or their citizen initiatives in different fields.
These personalities, from various backgrounds, were chosen after an internal survey carried out with some 300 journalists from the Agency.
In the “Arts and Culture” category, Mehdi Qotbi, president of the National Museums Foundation (FNM), was chosen personality of the year. Considered one of the great figures of contemporary art in Morocco and the Mediterranean, Mr. Qotbi has seen his exhibits in major museums around the world.
On the “Sport” side, Achraf Hakimi, a Moroccan international playing at the German club Borussia Dortmund, won the title of personality of the year. Hakimi was voted best young African player in 2019 at the 28th edition of the CAF awards.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans residing abroad, Nasser Bourita, was chosen personality of the year in the “Politics and Governance” category, for his action which contributed to promoting Moroccan diplomacy.
In the “Social Action, Citizen Initiative and Human Development” category, it was her commitment and dedication to the cause of single mothers that earned Aïcha Chenna, founder of the Association “Female Solidarity”, the title of personality of year.
The Wali of Bank Al Maghrib, Abdellatif Jouahri, was elected personality of the year in the “Economy and Finance” category for having been awarded for the third consecutive year as one of the ten best governors of central banks around the world.
In terms of “Media, Communication, Internet and Social Networks”, the former director of the weekly “Al Ousboue Assahafi”, the late Mustapha Alaoui, was named personality of the year 2019. The late man was known by his column entitled “Alhaqiqa Addaiâa” (the lost truth, note), published in the columns of “Al Ousboue Assahafi”.
Through the survey of personalities of the year, the Moroccan Press Agency intends to highlight confirmed talents in the fields.
