Tourist arrivals in the city of Marrakech totaled nearly 3 million visitors in 2019, all nationalities combined, an average growth rate of 8% compared to the previous year, according to figures from the Regional Tourism Council (CRT).
This performance represents twice the average growth rate of world tourism according to statistics from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), specifies the CRT in a press release sanctioning the work of a meeting of its executive committee held at the start of the week in Marrakech.
The ocher city thus recorded more than 8 million tourist nights during the previous year with an occupancy rate of 61%, notes the CRT, explaining that this meeting was devoted in particular to the presentation of the assessment of activities of the year 2019 and the 2020-2022 competitiveness acceleration plan.
On the menu of this meeting, which took place in the presence of the president of the CRT, Hamid Bentahar, the director general of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), Adel El Fakir, the presidents of the provincial tourism councils under the the Marrakech-Safi region, as well as representatives of the central directorates of the Ministry of Tourism, the Wilaya, the National Airport Office (ONDA) and the Regional Investment Center (CRI), also featured the presentation of the plan actions 2020, in addition to debates around various questions relating to the sector.
Also taking part in this meeting were representatives of Cadi Ayyad University and actors operating in the fields of culture, crafts, agriculture, gardens, events and digital skills.
