Transdev, already operator of the first Tramway put into service in Morocco in May 2011, has just been renewed for 10 years by the Rabat-Salé Tramway Company (STRS) to operate the Rabat-Salé-Témara Tramway network.
As of January 1, 2020, Transdev will operate, market tickets and maintain the trainsets and infrastructure of the two tram lines, covering a total length of 27 km and comprising 43 passenger stations.
Under the new contract, the operator is bound by “reinforced quality of service objectives and the gradual deployment of new services for users, which will help to perpetuate and develop the success and reputation of the network”. As such, it aims to increase the number of visitors to the network from 110,000 travelers per day currently to 150,000.
Daily transport is provided by 33 double Alstom Citadis trains. Each double train has 118 seats for an overall capacity of around 600 passengers.
After more than 8 years of operation, the Tramway has become an essential means of transport and perfectly adapted to the growing demand for mobility in the agglomeration of Rabat-Salé-Témara, accumulating to date more than 250 million passengers, i.e. more than 30 million travelers annually.
