Walid Regragui is Morocco’s new coach

It’s official, Walid Regragui has just been appointed as the new coach of the Moroccan football team. He thus succeeds Vahid Halilhodzic, dismissed at the beginning of the month for incompatibility of temper with certain players, including Hakim Ziyech.

The new Atlas Lions coach is no stranger to football. Former Moroccan international Walid Regragui was the coach of Wydad Casablanca last season. His performances with the club are still fresh in memory, as he won the CAF Champions League and the championship.

His name had been circulating for a few weeks, so it was no surprise that the federation presented him on Wednesday afternoon, at a press conference. It is he who will have to lead the Moroccan selection to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. He has signed a four-year contract.

According to many sports experts, the satisfactory results recorded by Walid Regragui pleaded in his favor, making him the natural candidate. He takes over the management of the Atlas Lions in an atmosphere marked by discord, which many supporters hope to see resolved before Morocco’s participation in the World Cup.
