Worrying decrease in the number of Chinese tourists

It seems that neither the ministry of tourism nor the operators of the sector have any explanation to give against this period of lean cows. The poor performance of Chinese tourism in 2019 caught everyone by surprise.

On a comparable basis, the number of visitors to the country of the rising sun fell by 40% compared to the same period in 2018, with only 60,000 tourists registered in the first four months. It appears, according to industry experts, that the market resumes its cruising speed, after the call for air recorded during the two previous years following the lifting of visas.

The forecasts of the Ministry of Tourism, Air Transport, Crafts and Solidarity Economy spoke about 500,000 Chinese visitors by 2020. If industry professionals estimate the number of Chinese tourists in 2019 to 200,000, it will be difficult, if not impossible, to consider such a goal in 2020.

I must admit that even the opening of a direct airline between Casablanca and Beijing (the negotiations with the Chinese authorities are still ongoing) can not overcome this enormous difference. Even less the informal sector that continues to hinder the natural development of the market, in the absence of firm regulation.

In the meantime, the solution could come from the company Turkish Airlines, which plans to open a direct line Beijing-Marrakech. With 25 daily flights with China, Turkish Airlines will have the privilege of bringing a breath of fresh air to this market, by re-launching the development of its potential already begun in 2017 and 2018.
